About Me

I have 30 years of writing and editing experience as a fiction writer, critic, journalist, speechwriter and marketing business owner. I am currently the Book Review Editor for the Los Angeles Review, where I also help read fiction submissions. I also teach fiction classes and workshops in the southeast Michigan area.

In the course of my literary duties I read hundreds of fiction and book review submissions for each issue, which I believe further sharpens my editing skills.

I am a graduate of the MFA program at the Northwest Institute of Literary Arts, where I studied under award-winning authors including David Wagoner, Bruce Holland Rogers, Kathleen Alcalá, Elizabeth George, Tess Gallagher, Carolyne Wright, Marc  Acito, Madeline DeFrees, Marvin Bell, Kate Gale, Anjali Banerjee, and many others.

I am the 2011 winner of the Springfed Arts Fiction Contest. My work has been published in many print journals, including Vestal Review, Fiction Southeast, Apalachee Review, Los Angeles Review, Fifth Wednesday Journal, The Summerset Review’s annual anthology, Raven Chronicles and many others.  My blog on writing and criticism is at http://joeponepinto.com.
